If you’re having issues with your computer system, in the majority of cases, we will be able to determine the nature of the problem you’re experiencing over the phone – or possibly even via email! – and outline what action will be necessary to resolve the issue.
Often we can also give at least an indicative quote of the cost of the work at this stage.
This initial discussion usually results in an appointment to visit to your home or office to confirm the fault diagnosis.
There’s no call out charge and we operate a no fix, no fee policy.
We will examine your system at no charge and provide you with a no obligation quote and we will then either repair the system on site or, more usually undertake repair work off site.
Some minor repairs and the resolution of some software problems such as an infection by adware/malware are capable of being undertaken on site but we undertake most hardware repairs and all rebuilds off site.
This minimises the time on site and as we can work on other systems at the same time – whilst for example your system is installing software – this allows us to keep our charges lower than if we were undertaking all the work on site at your home or office.
It also allows us where necessary to safely remove and test any parts to identify the fault and to accurately identify and cost any replacement parts that are needed. We’ll then contact you with a fixed cost for the repair before undertaking any work – so there’s no nasty surprises when the repair is complete!
If you decide not to proceed with the repair, there’s no diagnosis charge unless we’ve previously advised you otherwise.
If we think a system is beyond economic repair – a common example of this is laptop motherboard failure – where it makes more sense to invest in a replacement, we’ll let you know and undertake whatever further action we agree with you.
This may be to simply recover your data (documents, pictures etc) from the hard drive or it might be to supply and set up a new laptop or desktop or one you source yourself – see new system setup.
If it’s just data recovery, for small volumes – up to say 20gb – we’ll normally save this to a usb pendrive or dvd’s but for larger volumes we would normally expect to recover it to an external hard drive – which we can supply if you don’t already have one.
For a system beyond economic repair, we can arrange for disposal or return of the system although if you want us to return the system rather than collecting it we do reserve the right to apply a small charge to cover the return travel costs. Often that’s not necessary as we’ll usually be in the area in the following days and can return the faulty system when passing!
